HBP Receives Tribute in DC Child Abuse Recognition Resolution of 2011
On April 5, 2011, the Council of the District of Columbia honored Healthy Babies Project in a special ceremony during Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The Council passed the District of Columbia Child Abuse Recognition Resolution of 2011 stating, “Whereas all children deserve to be protected and free from physical and emotional harm, the District of Columbia acknowledges and honors Healthy Babies Project for demonstrating a commitment to providing services and support for victims of child abuse and neglect, as well as their families — and for providing educational and training resources for the community.”
“ ‘No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child,’ ” said HBP Executive Director Regine Elie, quoting Abraham Lincoln in her remarks. “For more than twenty years, Healthy Babies Project has been standing tall. We work hard to ensure that every child born in the District of Columbia is born healthy and safe.”
“These babies are still here. These mothers are still here,” said D.C. Council member Harry Thomas. “Let’s save the safety nets — organizations like Healthy Babies Project.”
Twelve other agencies also received recognition along with Healthy Babies Project.
HBP extends personal thanks to Councilmember Harry Thomas for his continued support of our work and special appreciation to Councilmember Jim Graham for proposing the resolution.
